Wow! is a project for women in Leeds who are seeking asylum to support and encourage each other to be more physically active. The project focuses on building friendships, getting moving, enjoying the outdoors and using different activities to link women with opportunities to try new sports and build on skills. Wow! is accessible to women of any ability and fitness level.
Women who have attended Wow! will:
Be more active
Have improved mental well-being
Feel less isolated
Have created new friendship groups
Have increased knowledge of the local community
Support with transport to and from sessions
Equipment and clothing to support with various different activities and sports
Limited gym and swim passes
The funding for Wow! comes to an end in March, and without additional funding we will not be able to continue providing this group.
In a bid to raise awareness of the importance of physical health, its positive impact on mental well-being and to raise £10,000 to continue this work, the WHM staff team attempted to walk an incredible 1 MILLION steps every week for 8 weeks - starting 17th November.
After a challenging 8 weeks, the team walked an incredible 7.2million steps and raised an amazing £2,500.
Women's Health Matters would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported us with our cause.
